you probably got here because almanac is indexing your fedi instance.

these are snapshots of public activity on Bluesky and Mastodon, covering posts and profiles, used for research and fedi-wide search.

how do i opt-out?

add #noindex in your bio and leave it there. once processed, your posts and profile are removed from every release that ships afterward. bridgy servers are automatically opted out by default.

your data isn't being used for AI training.

these snapshots aren't used, sold or licensed to anyone for AI training. everyone downloading them has agreed to a license that prohibits use for model training and left their contact details along with reason to download.

why is my account in here?

we only collect public content that your account serves to logged-out visitors or other instances federating with yours. if your posts are unlisted, followers-only, or if your instance blocks our indexer, they aren't collected.

i run an instance. what are my options?

instance-level access controls are respected. if you turn on authorized fetch or restrict access to your instance's public timeline, accounts on your instance stop appearing in future releases. our bot also identifies itself with a useragent.

if you own an instance and are getting hammered (you shouldn't but just in case), i can also tweak settings on it too. please email or dm me.

our bot's useragent is Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Almanac/1.0; +https://tiago.zip/almanac)

why isn't this opt-in?

because almost nobody opts in, and a snapshot of the few hundred people who did isn't useful for anything. it also wouldn't reflect the network, which defeats the point of studying it.
